Betty Donaghy Travis

August 6, 1923 ~ April 15, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old


Betty Donaghy Travis, 93, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away to her eternal home April 15, 2017 in Charlotte, NC to be with her beloved husband, Willard V. Travis and precious grandson, Calvin Keeney.

 

Betty graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1941 where she met her lifelong companion, Willard.

 

She worked for the Hamilton County School System as a school secretary at Harrison Elementary and retired from Bess T. Shepherd.   She loved serving the children and staff for many years.   She was formerly employed at the Chattanooga Gas Company.

 

Betty and her late husband, Willard were charter members of St. Peters Episcopal Church, and she was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church.

 

She may be gone in person, but her wonderful spirit abides in us always.  We cherish that spirit, and the so many, many delightful memories she has given us.

 

Betty is survived by her son, Vance (Rebecca) Travis, Signal Mountain, TN;  daughters, Susan (Stephen) Keeney, Waxhaw, NC and Jan (Bryce) Coatney, Nashville, TN;  grandchildren, Todd (Wendy) Travis, Colorado Springs, CO., Dana (Jake) Rains, Franklin, TN and Travis (Jillian) Keeney, Marshall, TX, and six great-grandchildren.

 

The memorial and celebration of life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 8 at Thankful Memorial Episcopal Church in St. Elmo with Father Bradford Whitaker officiating.

Betty will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Willard, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

 

The children would like to thank Regency Retirement Village and Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region for their love and care for their mom.
