Ruth Marie Drake

Ruth Marie Pittman Drake pressed toward the goal to win the prize for which God had called her heavenward in Christ Jesus. She fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. On May 16, 2017 she entered into eternity to meet her savior and receive her crown of righteousness.

Ruth was born on July 1, 1920 to William L. and Willie Moran Pittman. She was a graduate of City High School of Chattanooga and Virginia Intermont College. She married Carl A. Drake Jr. on September 8, 1940.

Ruth loved gardening. She shared her experience and passion with others as a member and President of the Missionary Ridge Garden Club. Her mother and sister joked that Ruth never left a flower untouched, as she was quick to pick them. She felt that a house could not be a “home” without fresh flowers on the table.

Ruth enjoyed adventure and traveling the world. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping. She had an impeccable sense of style. Ruth will be remembered for her effervescent personality, quick wit, and warm smile. She radiated positivity that was entrenched in her love for scripture and God. She was a devoted member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by siblings Thomas, Carter, and Mary (“Toogie”).

She is survived by her three children: Nancy Donelson, Carolyn Snyder, and David Drake; grandchildren Stokely, David, and Daniel Donelson, Tad Wood and Nancy Stabil, and Hannah and Matthew Drake; multiple great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, May 23 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Dr. Bill Owens officiating.
