Alice (Collins) Matthews

Alice Collins Matthews, 96 of Chattanooga, passed on to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, while in a local health care facility.

She was born on March 18, 1924 to the late James and Ellen Collins.  Alice graduated from City High School and later served as a Purchasing Agent for Miller Brothers Company in downtown Chattanooga.  She and her husband were members of Highland Park Baptist Church for over 50 years.  Alice later became a devoted member of Stanley Heights Baptist Church, where she had the support of many close friends and her church family.

She had a talent for playing the piano and organ and was given the opportunity to play for church services in her early years.  Another one of her talents was poetry writing.  Her family also celebrates her great sense of humor and her caring and loving disposition.  She will be greatly missed!!!  Alice’s family is at peace knowing she is with her Lord and Savior and reunited with their father and the loved ones that have preceded her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Cadwell “C.M.” Matthews; brothers, Glen and Richard, who died as infants, James, William, Edward and Thurman and two sisters, Verla Mae and Effie.

Alice is survived by her six children, Mac, George Landis, Lyle Matthews and Teresa Glascock, all of Chattanooga, Janice “Jan” Bushman of Meridian, MS and Barry of Kennesaw, GA; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Due to the current health situation, the family will have a private service at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
