Alma (Johnson) Jeffries

Alma J. Jeffries, 101, of Ooltewah, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, January 22, 2020.

Born February 6, 1918 in Crawfordville, GA to Dock Burson and Esther Edwards Johnson. She graduated from Central High School in 1934.

Mrs. Jeffries retired in 1976 from the U.S. Geological Survey and had worked for several Government Agencies including the Tennessee State Employment Office, Veterans Administration Hospital, Veterans Administration Office, Weather Bureau and the Cincinnati Ordinance District.

She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Ooltewah and in recent years was a honorary member of Graceworks Church which she attended with her daughter.

Alma was an honorary member of the Crestwood Garden Club in East Ridge.

She enjoyed playing the piano, writing short hand in her diary, doing jumble word puzzles, and reading her Bible and novels.

She was preceded in death in 1982 by her husband Raymond James Jeffries.

She is survived by her daughter, Esther Jeffries and many loving friends whom she was an inspiration for.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Owens and Rev. John Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
