Annette McCann, 93 of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018.
Annette had been a resident of Chattanooga all of her life and was a member of St. John UMC. She retired from Volunteer Life Insurance Company in 1991 after 49 years of service, most of them as Claims Director. Upon her retirement, she organized a Retiree’s Association in honor of her fellow 184 employees who had spent at least 25 years as an employee of Volunteer/Chubb Life since the incorporation of Volunteer Life in 1903 until the company moved out of the area in 1994. Annette also organized a group of friends from Volunteer called the “Dinner Darlings”, who meet once a month to keep in touch. The group is still active after 23 years. After retirement, Annette was a volunteer at WTCI, the local PBS station for one day a week for 10 years. She also volunteered at the Hunter Museum and at St. John UMC.
She was preceded in death in death by her father and mother, James I. and Jessie McCann.
Survivors include her adopted niece, Sylvia Clements and her husband, Howell of Chattanooga; cousins, Glenda and her late husband, Steve Ale of Chattanooga and Jim and Clara Grissom of Overland Park, KS.
A private graveside service will be held.
