Tribute

Miss Barbara Sherrill Salisbury

Miss Barbara Sherrill Salisbury age 88, of Signal Mountain, TN, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022.

Miss Salisbury was born in Madison, Tennessee on August 30, 1933, the daughter of the late James Orin Salisbury and Helen Audrey Salisbury. She was a member of First Baptist Church Golden Gate Way.

After graduating from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a BA and a MA in Library Sciences, she worked for Delta airlines when as she put it, “flying was still glamorous.” Over the next sixty years, she would hold a variety of positions at a number of different organizations.

Barbara taught disabled people job skills in the 60s, sold paper door to door in the 80s, ran an adult literacy and job training program in the 90s, sold used books in the early 2000s and greeted all of Signal Mountain at Walmart-Mart in the 2010s.

She was a Sunday school teacher who loved Frank Sinatra, Chekov and the movies. Barbara was the center of every room whether she liked it or not. Her loud, inappropriate banter will be missed by all who knew her, especially her niece and nephews who can’t imagine life without her.

A true Braves fan, her family takes great comfort that her last baseball season was also the best.

In addition to her parents, Miss Salisbury was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Walter Edward Casavant.

Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Camille and Robert E. Jungman; niece and her husband, Mary Ann Casavant and Scott R. Wilson; and two nephews, Robert Jungman and his wife, Jessemy Neiger and James Casavant; a great-nephew, Hugo Wilson; and two great-nieces, Beatrice Wilson and Elizabeth Camille Jungman.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully memorial contributions be made to Chattanooga Cares.
