Tribute

Betty Smyth Green, 81, of Murfreesboro, TN (formerly of Chattanooga) went to be with the Lord on October 27, 2019 surrounded by family.

She was of Baptist faith and for many years, she was a member of Concord Baptist Church.

She was born on July 2, 1938 in Wetumpka, Alabama to the late David and Annie Ruth Emfinger.

Betty graduated from Holtville High School in Deatsville, Alabama in 1956. In 1958 she married John Smyth and they spent 51 years together until his passing in 2009. Upon moving to Chattanooga in 1972, her employment included Aamco, Buster Brown and the Board of Realtors. She became a licensed real estate agent, in which she worked for over 30 years.

In 2011 she married William Green and they were married for over 7 years, until his passing in 2019.

She was blessed with two incredible husbands.

Betty loved to bowl, play cards and work her daily crossword puzzles. She never met a stranger and was always willing to go the extra mile to help anyone in need. She was a hard worker who possessed a strong work ethic, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in her friendships, and set the example of what it meant to be a friend. She was cherished as a wife, mother and grandmother.

Betty was preceded in death by her late husbands, John Smyth, William Green, son-in-law, Joel Norcross and four siblings Billy and James Emfinger, Gertie Boyett and Berta Griffin.

She is survived by her children, Pamela (Max) Frisbee, Kimberly Norcross, Randy Smyth, Bill Green Jr. (Ann), Annette (Bob) Allen; grandchildren, Nick Frisbee, Josh Frisbee, Will Frisbee, Wes Frisbee, Jennifer (Troy) Teems, Abby Norcross, and Army Lieutenant Brennen Smyth; great-granddaughers, Ashlynn Teems, Laney Norcross, sister Margaret Gothard; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at 2:30 on Sunday, November 10, 2019 in the funeral home chapel, Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road with visitation from 1:00-2:30 PM prior to the service.
