Carl G. Minnick, 94, of Chattanooga died on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, surrounded by family.
He was born June 6, 1926, to the late Conley E. and Maude (Woodward) Minnick. He graduated from William King High School in Abingdon, VA. Carl received training from Midwestern Schools, Inc. in airline reservations in 1949, and Kirkman Vocational School in mechanical drawing.
Carl served our country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 1289 where he was Chaplain and past District Commander as well as a member of the American Legion in East Ridge, TN. Carl was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. as a member in civil service and the employment committee.
He began work at DuPont in 1949. He hired in as a miscellaneous operator and has worked there ever since. After five years, he transferred into maintenance and spent the rest of his time at DuPont in that department. In that capacity, he worked in many places throughout the plant.
Carl was a lifelong volunteer and served his community and fellow man in many capacities. He was a 20 year volunteer and board member of Selective Service System of Arlington, VA.
Survivors are his wife, Aggie Minnick; two children, Carla Self (Joseph Nedley), and Barry Minnick (Dr. Shae); four grandchildren, Christopher (Christi) Self, Leigh Minnick, Andrew Minnick, and Michael Minnick; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan Self, Addison Self, and Emma Minnick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his eight siblings, Edgar Y., Bonnielea, Charles E., Elwood P., Sylvester E., John W., and Janet E. Minnick.
Graveside services will be held Monday, January 18, at 10 AM at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating. Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Air Force and American Legion.
