Carol Charlene (Misenheimer) Young

Carol Charlene Misenheimer Young was born December 24, 1948 in Grundy, Virginia to Reverend K. Moser Misenheimer and Doctor Helen Evans Misenheimer.

She spent her younger years traveling with her parents as they ministered in small towns in North Carolina.  She met her future husband in Greensboro, North Carolina at Grimsley Senior High School.  In 1971, Carol graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a major in French Education and a minor in English.

Upon graduation, she was hired by Pan American World Airways as a flight attendant with a home base at JFK Airport in New York City.  While employed by Pan Am, she had the opportunity to serve with other flight attendants as hostesses for the yearly board meeting of Pan Am. This enabled her to meet the Chairman of the Board, Charles Lindbergh.  During her employment with Pan Am, her destinations included Western Africa, Europe, South America, Central America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.  She left Pan Am in 1975.  In Chapel Hill, North Carolina, she took a position with Circle Tours as a travel agent. It was this employment that financed her husband's medical education.

In 1978, she moved with her husband to Chattanooga, Tennessee to begin his private practice. After spending a few years as a housewife and as a mother; she became a co-owner in the company All Seasons Travel. Along with her business associates, they grew the business from a 49th position in sales in the Greater Chattanooga Area to number 3!  Carol obtained her Certified Travel Counselor Certification in 1988.  She continued to expand her specialty certifications with tourist degrees focusing on Hawaii, Canada, the South Pacific, Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa! No moss gathered on her!

All Seasons Travel was closed due to the rapidly changing tourist industry. In its place, and in 2004, however, she continued practicing her profession as a home base agent. Her new company was Experience Travel.

Carol also specialized in assisting travelers with disabilities. She was a member of SATH, Society for Accessible Travel and Hospitality. She was a 6 year member of the Business Network International, the Riverbend chapter. She served a 2nd term as president.  She was also on the Board of Directors of the national organization, ARTA, the Association of Retail Travel Agents.

Carol developed an expertise in organizing and escorting trips into Africa. To quote Mark Twain, she always felt that "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness."

She felt strongly that without a travel consultant on your side; you were on your own.

Carol is survived by her husband of 47 years Dr. Larry Young, her son Evan Young from Murfreesboro, TN, her daughter, Traci Young from Soddy Daisy, TN, her brother, Barry Misenheimer from Venice Beach, CA, and her sister-in-law AKA "sissy" Ellen Freiberg. She adored her only grandchild, Elijah Young who was the object of her full attention. She loved her nephews, Richard Freiberg, Elliot Freiberg, Dr. Craig Freiberg, her godson, Asher Freiberg, Rory Freiberg and her niece, Dara Freiberg.

There will be no services held at the funeral home.
