Caroline (Strickland) Moore

October 12, 1926 ~ September 16, 2018 (age 91)

Caroline Strickland Moore, 91, passed away September 16, 2018 in her home at Hickory Valley Retirement Community.  She was surrounded by her loving family.

Caroline was born in Macon, GA and graduated from Albany High School in Albany, GA.  She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA before marrying Joseph Eugene Moore, her childhood sweetheart.  They shared 60 wonderful years of marriage until Joe passed away in 2005.

She treasured her lifelong role of wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She also valued her close friendships.  She was an accomplished pianist, winning numerous awards and radio contests throughout childhood and her teen years.  She excelled in school, being named Most Intellectual in her senior year of high school.  She loved math, as shown by her jobs working for Trust Company of Georgia and H&R Block.  In retirement, she continued to be an avid bridge player as well as enjoying bingo, game shows, crossword puzzles, movies, and reading.

Caroline was a very active member of First Christian Church for 60 years.  She especially enjoyed her years in the Key Class and in Christian Women’s Fellowship.  She quietly demonstrated her deep faith in every part of her life.

Above all, she adored and treasured her family.  She was kind, patient, thoughtful, generous, and put others’ needs before her own.  Caroline is survived by her daughters, Susan (Rodney) Bass of Chattanooga and Barbara (Michael) Jeremiah of Roanoke, VA; seven grandchildren, Emily (Eric) Ditman of Chattanooga, Rebecca (Andrew) Goad of Kingsport, Liz (Ben) Edwards, Sarah (Joal) Henke, and Jeff (Jennifer) Bass, all of Chattanooga; and David and Katie Jeremiah of Roanoke, VA.  She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, Trevor and Vivian Ditman; Olivia and Maxwell Goad; Caroline Edwards; Kohl, Aden, and Blake Henke; and Ava Logan.  She is also survived by 6 nieces and one nephew.  She will be greatly missed by the family she loved so dearly and by her special friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday, September 21, at First Christian Church, 650 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403, with Rev. Brandon Gilvin and Pastor Bill Spencer officiating.  Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
