Dr. Gary Lee Yarrington, 86, of Chattanooga went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 17, 2022.
Born on August 6, 1935 in Wateloo, Iowa to the late Howard Curtiss Yarrington and Alice Hutting Yarrington, he graduated in 1955 from high school at the age of 17.
He joined the US Navy and served 4 years – one year of duty during the Korean War was at the Arlington National Cemetery playing taps.
Dr. Yarrington received his Pharmacy degree from the University of Iowa and returned to the University of Iowa to receive his degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery.
Dr. Yarrington was not quite satisfied so he enlisted a hobby of getting his instrument rating Pilot license.
He worked for 52 years with the Veterans Administration retiring at the age of 82.
He loved his music and sports but having married a southern bell he soon switched to Bama football; but still enjoyed following the Hawk Eyes.
Dr. Yarrington is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Folds Yarrington; daughter, Vickie Lynn Yarrington; son, Mark Howard Yarrington; 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; two step sons, Christopher Wayne Skeen and Jeffery Louis Skeen; 2 step grandchildren, Jeffery Logan Skeen and Landen Lee Skeen.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23rd at 11 am in the chapel with Rev. Paul Rushing Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
