Elmer Glenn “Jerry” Kile, 97, died peacefully on November 17, 2019.
He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Eva Davis “Davey” Kile, his parents, Olie Berry Kile and Oakley Ryan Kile, and brothers Arthur Ray Kile, Lloyd Gaines Kile, Lee Eugene Kile, and sister Rebecca Sue Hill.
He is survived by his daughter Crystal Kile, son William Kile, daughter-in-law Nora Setliffe Kile, sister Ressa Stobaugh, and several nieces and nephews.
In his younger days he was an avid flyer and earned his wings as a B-17 pilot in the United States Army Air Corps. He operated a flight school in Florida after the war, but returned to Chattanooga to settle down.
He signed on at the DuPont Chattanooga Nylon Plant soon after it opened and worked there until his retirement. He spent his retirement tinkering in his shop, gardening, and engaging in extreme yard work, surrendering the keys to his tractor a mere six months before his death.
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Those who wish to remember him should plant a tree this coming Spring.
