Tribute

Era Tucker Artz, 93, died peacefully on December 6, 2018 at Alexian Village on Signal Mountain, Tennessee with her sister and niece at her side.  She was a long-time resident of Memphis, Tennessee and the widow of Philip Artz.

Era’s life is marked by resilience and energy, and she was a generous wife, mother, sister and aunt.  She and her husband loved to travel with friends and visit sites all over the world.

Her son, Steven, preceded her in death as did her parents Grace Collins Tucker Taylor and Charles Franklin Tucker.   One of nine siblings, she is also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters:  MacDonald Tucker (Eva) of McGhee, AR, Charles Bert Tucker of LaHabra, CA,  Josephine Tucker Turner of Lonoke, AR, Gwendolyn Tucker Edwards (Ross) of Altadena, CA,  Betty Tucker Wells (Derwood) of Monticello, AR,  Roy Tucker (Donnie) of West Memphis, AR,  and George Tucker (Sue) of Forrest City, AR.

She was cared for by her loving sister Evelynn Tucker Vanderford (LE) and her niece Lynn Vanderford Schmissrauter (Joey), both of Signal Mountain, until her death.  Mrs. Artz is also survived by many good friends in Memphis and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grandnephews all over the country.  She was formerly a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church and was lovingly pastored on Signal Mountain by the clergy at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church before her passing.  The family is grateful for the loving care given to Era by the staff and caregivers at Alexian Village, Hearth Hospice and Home Helpers.

A memorial service will be held at Memphis Memorial Park Chapel in early 2019.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 630 Mississippi Avenue, Signal Mountain, TN 37377.
