December 21, 1928 ~ February 15, 2021 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Eugene (“Gene”) L. Jones, Jr., a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away on February 15, 2021.

He entered the latex and urethane foam business in 1958, where he worked for NOPCO Chemical Company, Diamond Shamrock Chemicals, and Flexible Foam Products. In 1977 he went to work for Woodbridge Foam Fabricating, retiring in 1990 as Vice President of Sales.

Dad was a patriot and was proud of his service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #14, East Lake Lodge #698 F & AM and a volunteer at the Chattanooga Veteran Affairs Clinic.

Dad never met a stranger, was one of the most positive men ever, and his integrity never wavered. He considered his career as a salesman a profession, not just a job. He was always impeccably dressed in Mad Men style, and never left the house without a spit shine on his shoes that he personally shined himself. He had a perpetual George Hamilton suntan. Heaven is getting a new stylish angel! He was a perfectionist, and he will certainly be able to help keep things organized in Heaven. But most of all he was an incredible and loyal husband, father, mentor, and coach.

He was proceeded in death by the love of his life, Gloria L. Jones, and his parents Eugene L. Jones Sr. and Loraine P. Jones. He is survived by his children, Dr. Hal (Kim) Jones and Suzanne (Dr. Michael) Behrend; grandchildren, Avery Calhoun, Brian Jones, Brooks Jones, Conner Jones, Chase Carlton, Blair Carlton and Weller (Cami) Carlton; great grandchildren, Bennett Calhoun and Quinn Calhoun.

He was a current member of Grace Works Church. He was also a former long-time member of First Presbyterian Church and the Lee Anderson Sunday school class.

The family appreciates the outpour of love and support from their friends. They are respectful of the limitations during the pandemic, and they will therefore only hold a private family gathering to celebrate his life.

His interment will be in the near future at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
