Fred L. Edgmon

June 30, 1939 ~ December 8, 2018 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Tribute

On Saturday, December 8, 2018, Fred Lewis Edgmon, 79, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, at his home in Ooltewah, Tennessee.  Fred was born June 30, 1939, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Lee and Dovie (Lansford) Edgmon.

Fred grew up in Collegedale and graduated from Ooltewah High School in 1958.  He was proudly on the first squad of the football team at Ooltewah and was an All City player.  He attended The University of Tennessee, Tennessee Wesleyan College and even studied at Middle Tennessee State University.  He went on to begin a successful construction and real estate development business. He built many homes in the region, developed various subdivisions and was involved in many other real estate endeavors.

Fred was certainly passionate about UT football.  He always brought the best tailgate to Neyland Stadium and, showing his great love, even tolerated his daughter being a Bulldog.  In his younger years he was quite a sportsman and loved to hunt and fish.  He loved vegetable gardening, and tomatoes were his specialty.  He treasured giving his vegetables to his friends as a token of his love.  He also had a lifelong love of horses.  He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Above all else, he was a beloved father and grandfather.

Fred is preceded in death by his five siblings, Virginia Edgmon, Raye Edgmon, Joe Edgmon, Kathryn Steen and Marchie Edgmon.

He was the loving father of his only child, Allison Edgmon (Marc) Cromie; the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, Jacqueline Elder Bickerstaff (Ellie) and Augustus Howard Bickerstaff V (Ward); and three step-grandchildren, Hayden Grace Cromie, Kali Lauren Cromie and Marc William Cromie, Jr.  He also left former wife, mother of his daughter and friend, Pamela Helms Edgmon; two nieces, Sandra Steen and Raye Lynn Malzhan; nephew, James Steen; and many, many other friends and family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, December 12 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor David Hall officiating. A private burial will be following.
