Frederick Lockemann

Tribute

 

Fred Lockemann, 81, of Signal Mtn., passed away late Friday, May 21, 2021. 

Fred was born on March 3, 1940 in Rochester, New York, but spent most of his life on Signal Mountain. He was a graduate of East High School in Rochester, NY and of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

 He married Suzanne Buckholz in 1963. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Privateer Yacht Club where he was named Mr. Privateer in 1981. He sailed a Highlander in national competitions. He served on the boards of St. Matthew’s Night Shelter and the Newton Community Center. He was a volunteer for the Kidney Foundation of Greater Chattanooga. 

He was an avid sailor, amateur musician, gardener, and huge Georgia Tech sports fan. He enjoyed activities at their summer home on Seneca Lake in upstate New York. He was well known as an innovative process chemical engineer, and internationally known for his work in fighting air pollution. 

He was Manager of Engineering at Farmer’s Chemical Association, Inc. (later CF Industries) and later founded and was president of Solar Bear, Inc. (SBI Engineers). 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ella Lockemann; brother, Ernie Lockemann; and sister, Elsie Olderstein. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Suzanne Lockemann; nieces and nephews, Alan (Vicky) and Jon (Karen) Olderstein, Donna (Rick) Armstrong, Chris Lockemann, and Becky (Bob) Nally all of greater Rochester, Dale Beckman (Sally) of Melbourne, FL, Suzanne Beckman (Vicki) of Richmond, TX; and goddaughters, Natasha Nicol, Amy Janme, and Felicia Estridge. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the Kidney Foundation at www.kidneyfund.org. 

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Brad Whitaker and Joe Woodfin officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at 2 PM.
