Gail M. Sikes, 79 of Chattanooga, departed this life on Friday, March13, 2020, surrounded by her husband, daughter and son, as well as one of her caregivers.
Gail was born December 15, 1940 and was a life-long resident of Chattanooga. Through the years, along with her husband, Gail Sikes was an active member of Ridgedale Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church (Woodmore), River of Life Church, and most recently, Silverdale Baptist Church.
Throughout her entire life, Gail loved working outside in her yard and washing her car; she enjoyed tennis; always looked forward to eating a hot dog on the beach; and, was a successful entrepreneur. Among the businesses she created during her life were the Ridgedale Gift Shop, Regale Galleries with locations in Chattanooga and Cleveland, Tennessee, Fitness Works, and as the culmination of her life’s work, GM & Associates - a Christian-based counseling ministry. Through her ministry, which she operated for thirty years, Dr. Sikes helped hundreds of individuals and families learn why they did what they did.
Mrs. Sikes was preceeded in death by her mom and dad, Doyle E. “Bud” Moreland and Pauline Jenkins Moreland, as well as her brother, Doyle S. Moreland.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Gary Thomas (Tommy) Sikes; daughter, Dee Sikes (Tony) Atwood and her son, Dean (Lori) Sikes. In addition, Gail is survived by five grandchildren, Caroline Stitts, Ross Stitts, Will Sikes, Ellie Sikes and Meg Sikes; two nephews, two nieces, as well as extended other family.
The Sikes family wishes to especially thank the Caregivers who worked alongside our family in taking care of her during the past seven months of her life with a special note of gratitude to Leona White, the Hospice Nurse who became family during this season of mom’s life. In addition, we would like to say “thank you” to the Administrative, Medical, and Support team at Morning Pointe Assisted Living for their care and support for mom while she lived there for the past seven months, as well as a note of gratitude to Curtis Ottinger and the entire team at Heritage Funeral Home for loving our family so well.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 PM Monday, March 16, in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Dean Sikes officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, East with Tony Atwood, Chad Painter, Kent Chapman, Keith Sammons, George Hutson and Michael Teets serving as pallbearers.
