Harry L. Hudson Sr., 82, of East Brainerd died Monday, July 1, 2019 at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Mr. Hudson attended Tulane University and the University of Chattanooga He was a veteran of the US Army and an avid Tennessee Vols fan.
Mr. Hudson had thirty-four years of successful and profitable operations in the telecommunications business. His years of experience include eighteen years establishing, building, and managing Banana Communications, Chasetel Wireless, Cellular One and GTE operations in Tennessee, Georgia, and Arkansas, and sixteen years with ITT Business Communications Corporation, establishing and managing their interconnect operations in the Eastern U.S.
Mr. Hudson’s sixteen years with ITT Business Communications Services span from serving as Sales Representative to Eastern Zone Manager. In 1973 he was appointed the first ITT BCS Zone manager for the Eastern United States to establish ITT BCS’s first successful Interconnection operation to compete with the Regional Bell Operating Companies.
He had served on the Board of Directors of the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, the Private Industry Council, The Better Business Bureau, Partners for Academic Excellence, as well as Junior Achievement, the American Lung Association, and the American Cancer Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Jessie Faye Hudson; and siblings, Sonny & Patsy.
He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father & grandfather.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Dianna Hudson; children, Harry L. Hudson, Jr., Chattanooga and Karen (Tom) Hellwig; Los Angeles, CA.; two grandsons, Ashton Hellwig, Lafayette, CO, and Zac Hellwig, Los Angeles, CA.
Services will be held Friday, July 5th at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
