James Roy Clayton, 70, of Hixson, TN passed away November 28, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Hixson and graduated from Hixson High School in 1968.
He retired from Astec Industries after a 43 year career where he was a Manufacturing Superintendent. He was also retired from the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Senior Chief Petty Officer.
Everyone knew he had a deep love for his wife, Becky. They were married almost 50 years. He was her best friend and the love of her life. He was so proud of his 2 sons, 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and loved them so much. While the family mourns their loss they are reminded of this scripture: "Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted." Matthew 5:4
Roy enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing and was always up for a trip that Becky would plan with as many family members as possible. He had a witty sense of humor, a big smile and an infectious laugh.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, Thurman James Clayton; his mother, Lena Marie Varner Clayton; his sister, Betty Anne Clayton Combs.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; son, Greg (Kaci) and granddaughters, Skye and Meg; son, Kevin and grandson, Dylon (Mikayla); and two great grandchildren Kason and Addison.
While we know friends and co-workers would like to be with the family during this time; for the safety of all, we will have a private family memorial service . Roy will be laid to rest at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan Walden, Wayne Irwin, Marty Williams, Alan Walden Jr., Johnathan Coleman, and Roger Bryant.
In lieu of flowers we ask that you consider supporting a cause that is close to your heart.
