James “Jim” Markel of Chattanooga, age 75, passed away on December 29, 2019.
Jim graduated from Zelienople High in 1962 and from Grove City College in 1966. He was an Air Force Captain, having served as a navigator in a B-52 and flown many missions over North Vietnam. He pursued many years of employment in the trucking industry.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Clark L. Markel and Helen Markel Miller and his sister, Ann Markel Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Carol S. Markel; his two sons, Gregory (Mindy) Markel and Christopher (Mary) Markel and his five grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at 1 PM Friday, January 10, 2020 at Christ united Methodist Church. Burial in be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with the U.S. Air Force providing military honors.
Visitation will be 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on January 10, 2020, at Christ United Methodist Church, 8645 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
