James Edward Petty, age 75, of Ringgold, GA passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones.
He was a graduate of Ringgold High School and worked in various fields. James and his father worked together painting houses all over the Chattanooga area. He worked for Combustion Engineering for a time and later retired from Roadway Express after many years of service. James made friends wherever he went and always found a way to make people laugh. A lifelong member of Morris Hill Baptist Church, he was active in many areas and served as a deacon for many years. He also had many roles in Boy Scout Troop 36, helping many young men learn valuable life lessons including not asking for a “jam” sandwich.
James was preceded in death by his father, James L“Red” Petty; brother, David M. Petty and sister, Jean Tyrrell.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his mother, Louise Petty; sisters, Judy (Danny) Parker, Martha (Charles) Pierce, Patricia (Jackey) Black, Dianne (Nelan) Poteet; daughter, Susan (Brian) Diamond; son, David Petty; grandchildren, Connor & Elizabeth Diamond; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and special love, Betty Jones.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Hospice of Chattanooga for the excellent loving care they gave to James.
