Janet Rose (Blevins) Brooks

Janet Rose (Blevins) Brooks, 69 of Chattanooga passed away Monday, July 10, 2017 at her residence.  Janet was born July 6, 1948 in Scott County, Tennessee to the late Aree and Columbus Blevins.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, David Wayne Blevins.  Janet was a member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild as a maker of baskets out of pine needles.

Janet was an active Democrat and served her party proudly as a delegate to the 2012 Democratic National Convention for President Barack Obama.

Jan believed in the goodness of people.  She was kind and helpful to her friends and family.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Janet is survived by her husband, John Allen Brooks, her children, John and wife Candace Chenkus, III, Matthew and wife Alexis Chenkus and grandson, River Columbus Chenkus, and Amanda Chenkus, who is expecting Janet’s second grandchild, all of Chattanooga.  She is also survived by her brothers, Charles and wife Sue Blevins and Phillip and wife Judy Blevins, all of Robbins, TN; and her sister, Marjorie Sue Wisner of Tunnel Hill, Georgia.

Friends may visit with Janet’s family and friends from 4 – 8 P. M., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37421.
