Katherine R. Haralson, age 88, of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on September 21, 2021, from complications from a serious fall a few years ago, and, more recently, dementia. She gracefully fought until the end.
She was born on December 25, 1933 in Etowah, Tennessee. Kit, as she was called by dear friends and family, graduated from Chattanooga High School and went on to continue her education at Hiwassee College in Madisonville, TN and The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She had wonderful careers throughout her life. She first began working for Mr. Olan Mills traveling and opening the first permanent studio for Olan Mills Studios. She then moved to San Francisco, CA where she was involved in creating the first Public Relations Department at Xerox. Kit then went on to work as an Advance Publicist for Disney on Parade. There she promoted the live show, set up TV, newspaper, and radio interviews for the cast of Disney on Ice. From there she went on to NBC TV in Burbank, CA where she worked as a Publicist, Press Editor, and National Publicity Manager where she retired in 1989.
Kit was active through the years with the San Francisco Young Republicans, Actors and Others for Animals, and the Hollywood Women's Press Club, where she served as President for several years. She had a love for writing and spoke many times at Journalism classes in the California area. She loved animals of all kind, was passionate about standup comedy, and often performed standup comedy at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William D. Haralson and Alice Melton Wilkerson, sisters, Mrs. Henrietta (Paul) Golden, Mrs. Vera Mae (Brian) Fryar, and brother, Ted M. Haralson.
She is survived by the love of her life, special friend, and biggest cheerleader, Mr. Henry T. (Hank) Swigert of Oregon, sister-in-law Mrs. Ted M. (Betty) Haralson, cousins, and several nieces and nephews and their families. She also had many special friends in California and at home here in Tennessee.
The family would like to express gratitude to her wonderful doctor and staff at Partners in Care, Kindred Hospice, and the many caregivers she had over the past years.
