Lane Crawford

Gladys “Lane” Crawford, 82, of East Brainerd, passed away peacefully at her home on April 15, 2018.

Born in Baltimore, MD on June 14, 1935, she was preceded in death by her parents, Harry D. and Gladys I. Fee.

Lane was an exceptional seamstress and selflessly shared her skills with others by teaching young children to sew at the Lutheran School (BCA) on Belvoir Avenue, as well as volunteering in the cafeteria during lunch for many years.   She spent time quilting with the LWML Ladies at First Lutheran Church, where she was a member, and made hundreds of decorative gift blankets for worldwide missions.

Also, she initially believed it silly to chase a little white ball around all day, but she grew to love the game of golf and socializing with so many life-long friends.   She also helped build the completive spirit in her grandson, the love of her life, Blake, by practicing with him starting at age 5.   By age 10 he could easily out-drive, out-score and had his first hone-in-one.

Faithfully, grandma attended all his sporting events and followed him during matches and tournaments throughout his middle and high school golf career.

Lane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and openly shared her love publicly with small children and others around her.

She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends but, knowing that her faith in Christ Jesus will bring them all together again in heaven one day.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard C. (Dick) Crawford;  daughter, Angela Crawford Griffith;  grandson, Blake A. Griffith, Harrison, TN;  sister, Carolyn J.( Fred)  Steinwedel, Westminster, MD;  brother, Harry D. (Betty) Fee, Carriere, MS.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Lane has touched are invited to reminisce, grieve, and support one another from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.   A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Paul Bushur officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 478 Craighead Street, Ste. 200, Nashville, TN 37204 in Lane’s memory.
