Lillian Wells Penney

Lillian Wells Penney, 101 of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018.

She was born in Chattanooga to the late George D. and Clyde Johnson and resided in Chattanooga all her life.  Lillian was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church in Chattanooga.  She served as Past President of the Hamilton County Parents and Teachers, serving from 1959-1961.  Lillian was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital for seven years and a Senior Escort for Knoxville Tours for 20 years, planning many excursions for the Oakwood Baptist Church Seniors.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John L. Penney, her son, Robert V. (Bobby) Wells and eight siblings.

Survivors include her daughter, Judy Wells (Jim) Gass, Apison; five grandchildren, Ted (Michelle) Wells of Chattanooga, Lisa Wells (Tommy) Taylor of Murphysboro, IL, Kathy Gass (Frank) Allen of Maitland, FL, Ron (Missy) Gass of Hixson and Jeanna Gass (Joe) Brandt of Fort Mill, SC; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and her sister, Norma Grindle of Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, August 1, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ken Clark officiating.  Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
