Marilyn Joyce Vaughn Sims, 69, of Chattanooga passed away Saturday evening, January 25, 2020, at Memorial Hospital, surrounded by an abundance of family and friends.
A native of Winchester, TN, Marilyn had lived in Chattanooga since 1999.
She was a 1968 graduate of Franklin County High School and was the first Homecoming Queen elected by the student body. In the early 1970’s, she worked for Genesco Inc. and was honored as “Miss Genesco.”
Marilyn’s gracious and caring personality combined with her quick sense of humor and ready laughter endeared her to her many friends from all walks of life.
Marilyn had an amazing green thumb like her father, Willie, and took pleasure in growing flowers, enjoyed watching and feeding birds and loved all animals especially her loving cat, “Blur.”
She was of the Catholic faith and was honored to receive last rites by her high school classmate, Father Mike Creson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie & Ruth Vaughn and her loving husband, Eric Sims.
She is survived by her sons, Rob Majors (Ed Wolf), Chattanooga, and Troy (Jennifer) Page, Winchester, TN; sister, Kathy (Dewey) Garner, Estill Springs, TN; nieces, Wendy Hicks, Maryville, TN and Misty Frame, Estill Springs, TN.
The family would like to thank the staff at Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care along with her cardiologist, Dr. Robert Berglund, her pulmonologist, Dr. Harsha Shantha, and her primary care physician, Dr. Anthony Avitabile.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life filled with drinks, laughter and shared memories on Saturday, February 29th from 3pm to 6pm at the Hunter Museum of American Art.
