Mark Stephen Mathews, of Chattanooga, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 22, 2019. He was born on December 15, 1964 in Hot Springs, Arkansas and was 55 years old.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Cinnamon Mathews; his daughter, Shalae Hesselbein (Josh), his sons Andrew and Blake Mathews; his granddaughter Madison Hesselbein; his mother, Carolyn Mathews; his brothers, Danny and Tim Mathews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Mathews, as well as his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Mark was a devout Catholic, since he joined the faith in 2008 and was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas for many years. Mark served as the cantor and as a member of the choir for many years. Mark’s voice was rich and beautiful, and his singing brought life and warmth to the church’s hymns.
He was known for his charismatic nature, warm regard for others, bright smile and never-failing sense of humor. He made others feel welcome and loved, even if they were just meeting him for the first time. Mark enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, and playing trivia. At the center of Mark’s life and joy were his wife and children. Mark’s dedication to his wife and family was loving and unconditional, always putting their needs first. He was a doting father and the best friend possible to his wife.
Mark graduated as salutatorian from Cutter-Morning Star High School in 1983. He graduated with his Associate’s Degree in Electronic Technology from Southern Technical College. He furthered his education at Pulaski Technical College, where he received a certificate of General Studies with Honors. Mark spent 20 years of his career working in the wireless cellular industry, first as a technician and later as an engineer.
Mark was a wonderful man who was beloved by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
He will be greatly missed.
Mark will be laid to rest at Rest Hills Memorial Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
Family and friends are invited to attend Mark’s visitation at Heritage Funeral Home on East Brainerd Road in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Saturday, December 28th from 5 to 7 pm.
On Monday, December 30th a Rosary will be held at 10am followed by a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
