Marla Wilson Combs

Marla Wilson Combs, 68, of Ooltewah, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018. As a Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend; she handled all with grace, class, and dignity.

Born into a military family in Long Beach, CA, she truly lived the life of a military “brat” attending schools in California, Japan, Virginia, Oklahoma, France, Alabama, and Texas.  She received an AA degree from Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, VA and her BS from the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, FL.

Marla was retired from the Hamilton County School System, having spent 30 years as a Special Education teacher both in Jacksonville, FL and locally at East Ridge High School and Ooltewah High School.  She was an active member of St Martin of Tours Episcopal Church where she enjoyed working with the flower and altar guilds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Col. Robert W. Wilson and Sunshine Wilson and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Survivors include her husband John R. (Bob) Combs of 47 years; daughter Claire Combs, Gainesville, GA; son Matthew (Jodie) Combs, Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren Aaron and Luke; brother Gary (Deva) Wilson, Lacey WA; sister Monica Wilson, Mission Viejo, CA; aunts, uncles, and cousins in Texas and Minnesota; priceless friends at church and neighbors in Ooltewah.

All services will be held Saturday August 4, 2018 at St Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, 7547 E. Brainerd Rd., Chattanooga, TN 37421.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. at  St Martin of Tours Episcopal Church with Fr James Wallace and Fr Gordon Temple officiating.  Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in the St Martin Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin Episcopal Church Gracious Space Fund.
