Martha Aurora (Schmitt) Sandidge

June 8, 1930 ~ April 5, 2020 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Tribute

Martha Schmitt Sandidge, 89, Chattanooga, TN, went to her home in glory on Palm Sunday Morning, April 5, 2020. She passed peacefully with two of her sons by her side after an extended illness.

 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Hureschal J. Sandidge; brothers, John Schmitt, C.J. Schmitt Jr., and sister, Mrs. Lee Schmitt Brown; several sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as some nieces and nephews.

  

She was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Schmitt Sr. on June 8, 1930. She was married to Mr. Hureschal James Sandidge in 1952. She was a loving mother of five children, a faithful wife, a dedicated Christian, cancer survivor, cherished family member and caring nurse, whose goal in life was to serve others. She taught her children well and guided them to a faith in Jesus Christ. She always led with a loving heart and a desire to do the right things in life. She spent over 40 years serving as a registered nurse in the O.R. and Recovery rooms at Hutcheson Memorial Hospital. We are grateful for her life and proud that she was our mother. She was a wonderful example and we will do our best to lead as she has so faithfully led us all these years.

   

She is survived by sons, Steven Sandidge (Vanessa), Dewayne Sandidge, Kevin Sandidge (Carrie), Tim Sandidge (JoAnn); daughter, Lisa Carden (Jim); 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sisters, Donna Wooden, Grace Denton;  and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, T. C. Thompson Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House at Erlanger, Morris Hill Baptist Church, or the Gideon’s Bible Ministry.

   

A private family viewing will be held for her children at Heritage Funeral Home East Brainerd Chapel. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating her life will be announced at a later date.
