She was survived by her children, Melissa Weddle, Gerald "Chip" Greene; three grandchildren, Joshua (Arleny) Weddle, Spencer Weddle, Nicholas Greene; and one great-grandchild, Lainey Weddle; siblings, Rick Stewart, Janet Metcalf, Bonnie Lynda Spencer, Nancy Louise Serrato, Patricia Edith Marcott, Kenneth Byron Powelson Jr and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Elaine was born on September 13th, 1944 in Mobile, Alabama. She was raised by her granny, Myrtle Davidson. With her family, they lived in many places; Texas, California, North Carolina, and Florida. Later, Elaine lived in Tennessee and was adopted at 18 years old by Ervin and Eleanor Jean Stewart.

After graduating from Little Creek Academy, she attended Madison College. She moved from sunny Johnson City, Tennessee to raising her family in snowy Cleveland, Ohio. While there she was an active member of the Lakewood SDA Church and the church school secretary for many years. She was known for hosting church potlucks and plant sale fundraisers. Elaine also worked as a “Rocker Scientist” at Lewis Little Folks Daycare located on-site at NASA Glenn Research Center.

In 1999, she settled down in Ooltewah, TN to be near her grandchildren. Elaine continued her love for children by starting what would be a twenty year career with Primrose School of East Brainerd in the infant room.

She was an avid scrapbooker and reader. Her biggest joy was time spent cheering on her grandchildren during their sporting events from little league through high school.

Toward the end of her life, a perfect day began with morning cartoons in bed with her great granddaughter, afternoons outside enjoying the sunshine, eating Panda Express Orange Chicken for dinner, followed by a late night “special treat” bowl of butter pecan ice cream.

On Saturday, October 24th, 2020, there will be a private celebration of her life due to social distancing. Upon request, a Zoom link can be provided.
