Rev. Walter N. Hicks, 89, of East Brainerd, ended his journey here on earth to meet his precious Lord and Savior, Sunday, April 1, 2018.
He retired from General Motors after 28 years and pastored several area churches for over 45 years. He first pastored Lakeway Baptist Church in Harrison, TN., followed by Ridgeview Baptist Church, Cleveland, TN.; Hilltop Baptist Church, Ooltewah, TN.; and retired from pastoring after serving for 22 years at Gateway Baptist Church in East Ridge.
Rev. Hicks was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Dennis and Gary Hicks.
Rev. Hicks was a faithful servant of God. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness , which the Lord, shall give me at that day.”
Survivors are his loving wife of 68 years, Jean Haney Hicks; daughter, Lisa (Tubby) Swearengin; special granddaughter, Jennifer (Casey) Hall; 6 additional grandchildren, Brent (Erin) Charles, Amanda (Josh) Pentecost, Eric Hicks, Jada (Matt) Wilson, Keli Perry and Harrison Hicks; special great-grandchild, Kamryn Hicks and 15 additional great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Chad Chandler and Rev. Jimmy Thomasson officiating. Burial will follow at Tyner Cemetery with Brent Charles, Casey Hall, Josh Pentecost, Tommy Defur, E.W. Haney and Eric Hicks serving as pallbearers.
