Ruth E. Kvaven

Ruth Ellen Kvaven passed- away on June 11, 2020, at age 89.

Ruth was born in Charleston, TN and grew up with two sisters and two brothers. Ruth graduated from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. While there, Ruth met her husband Erik and the two were married at The Fountain City Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Tupelo, MS where they had two children. In 1960, they moved to Chattanooga, TN where Ruth worked at Memorial Hospital and became active in The League of Women Voters. She later worked for Dr. Philip Livingston, a well-known cardiologist and Dr. Joe Anne Quillian, a respected internist where she worked until she retired.

Ruth was known for her infectious laugh, outgoing personality, and her ability to make others feel special. Ruth was a devoted mother and loved being there for her children. After retiring, Ruth and Erik travelled extensively.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years Erik, daughter Katherine and son Erik, three beloved grandchildren, along with their families.

She also leaves behind lifelong cherished friends Betty Johnson, Jennie Allen, and Bo and Libby Cline of Chattanooga.

The family would also like to thank the compassionate caregivers at the Lantern at Morning Pointe in Collegedale.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the American Heart Association.
