Sarah Jo (Deakins) Elliott

June 8, 1927 ~ November 6, 2021 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Tribute

Sarah Jo Elliott made her transition from her earthly home to her heavenly home, November 6, 2021.

She was born to James Mitchell Deakins and his wife, Buelah  Lewis Deakins on June 8, 1927 in Chattanooga. Sarah Jo was married to and dearly loved her husband, James Melvin (Mel) Elliott for 58 years before his passing in 2005.  She outlived the majority of her friends, her sister and two brothers.

Her family loved her dearly as so did the community.  She was always doing for others and taking care of their needs before her own. Her love of God was evident in her family life and by those she ministered to within the community.

Sarah Jo was an avid sports fan, loving her Atlanta Braves and University of Tennessee football, basketball and baseball teams.  Her love for sports also included watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports as they grew up.

She was active within the community working as a volunteer in local hospitals in Orlando, Atlanta and in Chattanooga. Sarah Jo was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and active in her Sunday School Class.

Sarah Jo was the loving mother of son, Jim Elliott (Livia) of Chattanooga and daughter, Dianne Elliott Douglas (Carl) of West Palm Beach, Florida.  She was loved by her three grandchildren and the many memorable times they spent with her baking cookies, reading books and playing games;  Tyson Elliott (Heather) of Chattanooga, Jefferson Douglas (Jill), and Sarah Douglas St.Amour (Jason) of Palm Beach County, Florida. Sarah Jo was blessed with five incredible great grandchildren known to her as GiGi; Hayden Elliott, Maggie and Sylvia Douglas and Conner and Dawson St.Amour.  Sarah Jo has several nephews still living in Tennessee.

Her Friends and family will miss her, but they know that she is praising God and walking the streets of gold with our dad in her heavenly home.

Many thanks to Elmcroft Senior Living and Hospice of Chattanooga for their love and care given to Sarah where she lived her remaining days on earth.

A  Private family graveside service will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday, November 15, 2021.

Donations may be made in remembrance of Sarah Jo Deakins Elliott to Hospice of Chattanooga or to Ridgedale Baptist Church.
