Sarah Cooper Hayes died on June 20, 2021. She died as she intended - in her home and next to Tommy Hayes, her beloved husband of fifty-eight years. She died full of love and hope, trusting and following her Lord and Savior, Jesus.
She was born on September 10, 1941 in Livingston, Tennessee. She was predeceased by her parents, Ulysses and Hessie Cooper, and two brothers: Charles and Keeton Cooper. Two sisters and two brothers survive her: Lura Dean McGinnes, Patsy Walker, Marion Cooper, and Steve Cooper.
She graduated from Livingston Academy, and then attended nursing school at Nashville General where she graduated in 1962. In 1980, she obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She loved sports and was extremely competitive; she played basketball at Livingston Academy and later in life enjoyed playing tennis.
While in nursing school in Nashville, she met and married Tommy Hayes of Waverly, Tennessee. They had two children, Kim (Pat) Rasbury and Thomas (Lisa) Hayes. She has seven grandchildren: Alexis Grace Jennings, Hunt (Beverly) Jennings, Harrison Jennings, MacKenzie Jennings, Cooper Hayes, Brown Hayes, and Mary Chapman Hayes. She was fiercely devoted to all of them.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, and her faith informed all she did.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
