Sue M. (Martin) Payne

Sue Martin Payne, 84, returned to her heavenly home on January 8, 2021, after a valiant battle. Her devotion and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.

Sue was born to the late Hugh and Lorella Copeland Martin in Daisy, Tennessee, but soon moved to Chattanooga. Upon graduation from Tyner High School, she accepted a position at Olan Mills where she remained until they closed their doors.
 

Sue was blessed with a loving family composed of six siblings, whom she loved with a quiet devotion. She was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time for those who asked for help. She will be dearly missed by those who loved her but who now celebrate that is now at peace with her creator.

Sue is survived by her devoted and loving husband Ralph; her sisters Linda Tallent, Carole Aversa, Kay Spearman, Joan Akin; many nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Gene and Hugh (Buddy).

There will be no visitation or service. The family gratefully accepts prayers and memories from those who were touched by Sue’s loving and generous nature. To honor her life, contributions in her name can be made to Samaritan’s Purse, an organization dear to her heart.
