Virginia Louise (Huskey) Phillips

November 23, 1927 ~ August 30, 2020 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

Virginia “Grandmother” was a devoted wife for 72 years to her husband W.A. and a blessed Mother to her three children. She was a nurturing grandmother to five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great -great-grandchildren.  The name grandmother not only preceeded her by her biological grandchildren, but by a myriad of friends and church kids.

She was a charter member of the East Ridge Church of God and remained so for 71 years (now The Crossing Church).   She loved her church, church family, and God wanting to serve Him in any way she could.  Virginia served in several capacities:  President of Women's Ministry, Sunday school secretary, vacation bible school director, Christmas play Director, choir ministry and where ever else she was needed.  She was gifted in the area of greeting visitors and members alike making them feel welcomed and loved.  Kindness and Gentleness were two of her many gifts.

She was a crossword puzzle enthusiast.  She was also very "tech savvy" receiving her first iPad around the age of 82 and also an iPhone later.

One of her first jobs was working right out of high school at Woolworths in downtown Chattanooga.  She also worked at Interstate Life and Accident Insurance Company and Hamilton National bank prior to marrying and starting a family.  She was blessed to be a stay-at-home Mother while raising her children, thankful to her husband who worked hard to provide for his family and make it possible.

She was preceded in death by parents, Leonard and Ruby Huskey, husband W.A. Phillips, sister Dorothy Ann (Orville) Barnum,  daughter Joyce Moses Ellis, daughter-in-law Connie Teague Phillips, son-in-law Tony Moses, brother-in-law Marvin O’Neal, brother-in-law James Phillips, sister-in-law Ella Vee Phillips, Sister-in-law Jean Phillips.  She was preceded in death by father-in-law and mother-in-law Rev. T. L. and Adele Phillips.

She is survived by son Randy Phillips, daughter Connie (Lloyd) Looney, son-in-law Steve Ellis, grandchildren Scott (Natalie) Phillips, Kristi (Stephen) Kerley, Matt Phillips, Heather (Greg) Linderman, and Holly (Daniel) Carmona.  14 great grandchildren: Makalah Elsea, Izobel Phillips, Zeva Phillips, Emma Kerley, Maggie Kerley, Abby Kerley, Hannah Kerley, Taylor (Colin)Champagne, Haylee Phillips, Chandler Phillips, Kara Phillips, Ava Phillips, Harper Sims and Wren Carmona, 3 great great grandchildren  Eli, David, and Caroline.  Sister Evelyn O’Neal, Brother Jim (Shelba) Huskey, brother Don Huskey, brother-in-law Mitchell Phillips, Aunt Erma Wallace, and many dearly loved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Parting words from Grandmother would be – Love God, Love your Family, and remember “I love you SO Good.”
