Wallace Arlyn Smith

March 6, 1937 ~ September 17, 2021 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Tribute

On Friday, encircled by family and clinging to the hand of his bride Myrna, Wallace Arlyn Smith, 84, loosened his grip on this life and reached for the love of his life, Jesus, whose arms were opened to embrace his faithful servant.

Born in DeKalb County, AL, on March 6, 1937, Arlyn moved to Chattanooga, TN, in 1939, where He and his parents built and created their small homestead, their "country in the city".

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Doc & Addie Smith, Wallace and Jewel King; his parents Ferral & Lula Mae Smith of Chattanooga. Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Myrna Warren Smith, his brother Alton M. Smith of Dalton, GA, his children Mitchel Smith, (Debbie) Michelle Moore(Gary), Michael Smith, (Whitney), and Millicent (Millie) Smith and 8 grandchildren Meredith (Derrek), Reagan (Brandon) Michael (Chelsae), Micah, Tait (Zack)  Madison, Michael Jr., Summer and 7 great grandchildren. 

He graduated from Kirkman High School, attended UTC and spent his career as an electrician at Combustion Engineering for 40 years.  

He served his country in the United States Naval Reserve for four years.

A member of Temple Baptist Church, Arlyn was a servant deacon for 30 years. Prior to his service at Temple, Arlyn was a charter member of Boulevard Baptist (now Stanley Heights) where he served as a deacon and music director, and later on he served as music minister at Trinity Baptist Church.

A student of the Bible and a servant of others, Arlyn attended many Bible study groups to deepen his knowledge of the Scriptures. Despite the time the studies required, the highlights of Arlyn's days were his meetings with Temple Baptist Church study group, the Friday morning Bible study and the fellowship he had with The Dead Theologians Society.  

And now, Heaven's Theologian Society has added another great member in Wallace Arlyn Smith.

Pallbearers include Michael Moore, Micah Moore, Michael Smith Jr.  Derrek Long, Nathan Smith, Buddy Burnett

Honorary pallbearers are member of his Bible study groups and the Fellowship Sunday School Class of Temple Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held at 6 PM on Monday, September 20, at Temple Baptist Church, 3204 Clio Ave. Chattanooga, TN 37407. with Rev. Gary Moore, Dr. James Rushing, Jr., and Dr. Joe Novenson officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, September 21, at Forest Hills Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Temple Baptist Church.
