January 24, 1946 ~ May 31, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

David Michael “Butch” Thompson, 71, of Ooltewah went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2017.

 

Born in Gadsden, AL on January 24, 1946 to the late M.C. and Ruby Thompson, David was a graduate of Tyner High School and attended Baylor University before enlisting in the Army where he served two tours in Vietnam.

While in service, David traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia before being honorably discharged and returning to Chattanooga.

 

David completed his undergraduate work at UTC followed by his Masters in Psychology at MTSU.

 

He was a lifelong member of Concord Baptist Church where he actively served his entire adult life, teaching Sunday School,, serving as a Deacon and Elder.

 

David served his community throughout his professional career committing his time and energy working with the mentally and physically challenged.  His work as a Psychological Examiner led him to service at Team Evaluation, Orange Grove, Erlanger, Moccasin Bend and then into private practice.

 

A man of many talents, David was an avid golfer, wood worker, constant reader and a master of trivia and crossword puzzles.

 

Loved by all who knew him – and most of all his family, David was a friend to everyone and a “well” of great stories and wisdom.

 

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Daphna Schultz Thompson;  son, Matthew Thompson;  daughter, Emily (Jay) Perry;  two grandchildren, Madeline and Benjamin Perry all of Chattanooga; two sisters, Helen Counts, Chattanooga and Harriet Jordon, Murfreesboro, TN; nieces, Laura Magallanes, Monterey, CA, Tara Parr, Birmingham, AL and nephew, Judd Schultz, Augusta, GA.

 

Services will be held Saturday at 1 PM in the chapel with Rev. Drew Scott and Rev. Bob Segrest officiating.    Burial will  follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens, West.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Concord Baptist Church.
